Susan Rako MD, Psychiatrist for Newton, Newtonville and Boston, MAPsychotherapy in Newton, MA

Well-respected, internationally known Boston-based,
Harvard-trained psychiatrist, Susan Rako MD

If you need help to gain or regain a good enough balance and a way to find happiness in your life, I have decades of valuable experience. I am known as a "psychiatrist's psychiatrist," a true healer, and one who is gifted at working with "challenging situations" -- both individual and couples. Therapy is my specialty, and I do evaluate and prescribe medication for my patients if it is truly indicated. Author of : "That's How the Light Gets In: Memoir of a Psychiatrist" (published by Random House) and "Semrad: The Heart of a Therapist".

I was trained and have taught at Harvard Psychiatric residency programs and have 35 years of independent private practice. I enjoy working with anyone who truly wants to grow and heal. I will consult for a second opinion if your therapy is stuck.

If you want to know and own your thoughts and feelings, with whatever help you may need to bear them, I will see it through with you.

Take the first step to help. Call or Email Susan Rako MD now.

Dr. Rako’s specialty is in working with very intelligent (and sometimes very sensitive) individuals who are more interested in developing their own capacities than in complaining about the inadequacy of what they find outside themselves in the world and in other people.

Her areas of particular interest include (but are not limited to) the challenges of life for musicians and other artists, college students (not having substance abuse issues), couples who want to stay together but are having difficulties, and post-menopausal women. Author of the groundbreaking book, "The Hormone of Desire," Dr. Rako is uniquely expert in evaluating the mood effects of hormone deficiency as distinguished from depression due to other causes. As well, Dr. Rako has had extraordinary success in treating bipolar individuals and with high-functioning psychotic individuals.
